F13.10

Position tolerance band monitoring

SEW Eurodrive · MOVIDRIVE system

What does F13.10 mean?

The actual position detected by Encoder 1 has moved outside the configured position tolerance band. This could be due to incorrect startup parameters, faulty wiring, external interference, or a defective encoder, potentially leading to inaccurate positioning or unexpected movements.

Common Causes

  • Incorrect tuning of the position controller parameters (e.g., P2-10, P2-11) causing excessive overshoot or undershoot.
  • Excessive mechanical backlash or compliance in the driven load exceeding the defined position tolerance (P2-15).
  • External mechanical obstruction or resistance preventing the motor from accurately reaching its commanded position.
  • Intermittent electrical noise on the encoder feedback lines, corrupting position signals and leading to perceived deviations.
  • Incorrectly configured position tolerance window (Parameter P2-15) for the application's mechanical stiffness or dynamic behavior.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify the actual position error (monitor P2-07) against the configured position tolerance (P2-15) during operation.

  2. 2

Check for mechanical play or backlash in the coupling, gearbox, or lead screw by manually attempting to move the load.

  3. 3

Optimize the position loop gain (P2-10) and integral time (P2-11) by reducing P2-10 in small increments or increasing P2-11 to reduce oscillation.

  4. 4

Inspect the encoder cable shielding connection to the drive's ground terminal (SG or PE) for continuity (less than 1 Ohm).

  5. 5

Temporarily increase the position tolerance band (P2-15) by 10% and observe if the fault clears, indicating a potential mechanical issue.
