F13.9

Quadrant check

SEW Eurodrive · MOVIDRIVE system

What does F13.9 mean?

An error was detected during the quadrant check for the sine encoder (Encoder 1), indicating a problem with signal integrity or phase relationship. This can be caused by wiring issues, EMC interference, or a defective encoder, leading to incorrect position feedback.

Common Causes

  • Incorrect phase relationship between sine and cosine signals from Encoder 1 due to wiring error (e.g., A+ swapped with B+).
  • Amplitude mismatch or DC offset between the sine and cosine signals from Encoder 1, indicating a sensor fault or cable issue.
  • Noise or electromagnetic interference (EMI) causing momentary signal corruption that disrupts the quadrant detection.
  • Faulty Encoder 1 producing non-orthogonal sine/cosine signals (e.g., not exactly 90-degree phase shift).
  • Incorrect configuration of encoder type (e.g., P6-01 Encoder type) in the drive for a sine/cosine encoder.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify the wiring of Encoder 1's sine/cosine signals (e.g., terminals A+, A-, B+, B-) to ensure correct phase relationship.

  2. 2

Connect an oscilloscope to Encoder 1's sine and cosine signals (e.g., A+ and B+ referenced to A-) at the drive input (e.g., X11) and check for correct 90-degree phase shift and equal amplitudes.

  3. 3

Ensure Encoder 1 cable shielding is properly terminated to protective earth at both the encoder and the drive.

  4. 4

Check Encoder 1's supply voltage (e.g., 5VDC or 24VDC) at the encoder to ensure stable power delivery.

  5. 5

Review the drive's encoder configuration parameters (e.g., P6-01 Encoder type) to confirm it is set for a sine/cosine encoder.
