F14.10

Position tolerance band monitoring

SEW Eurodrive · MOVIDRIVE system

What does F14.10 mean?

The actual position detected by Encoder 2 has moved outside the configured position tolerance band. This could be due to incorrect startup parameters, faulty wiring, external interference, or a defective encoder, potentially leading to inaccurate positioning or unexpected movements.

Common Causes

  • Incorrect tuning parameters for position control (e.g., P5-20 Position window, P5-21 Position tolerance time) set too narrow.
  • Mechanical backlash, looseness, or wear in the motor coupling or load allowing excessive positional deviation.
  • Intermittent noise or voltage spikes on Encoder 2 feedback lines (e.g., due to poor shielding) causing erratic position readings.
  • Insufficient motor torque or incorrect current limits (e.g., P3-10 Current limit) preventing the motor from tracking the commanded position.
  • Internal damage to Encoder 2 sensor element or processing unit causing an unstable or incorrect position output.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify the configured position window (P5-20) and tolerance time (P5-21) against the actual mechanical system's capabilities.

  2. 2

Inspect Encoder 2's mechanical coupling and the load system for play, looseness, or worn components.

  3. 3

Check Encoder 2 feedback cable for proper shielding continuity and grounding at both the drive and encoder.

  4. 4

Monitor the actual position deviation and commanded position via data logging to identify the nature and timing of excursions.

  5. 5

Measure the motor's actual output torque and compare to commanded torque to ensure adequate power for tracking.
