F14.7

Signal level too high

SEW Eurodrive · MOVIDRIVE system

What does F14.7 mean?

The signal level from Encoder 2 is excessively high, exceeding the permitted limit during monitoring. This often points to an incorrect gear ratio configured for the resolver or a wiring issue, potentially leading to inaccurate position readings.

Common Causes

  • Incorrect resolver transformation ratio (P3-62) configured in the drive, leading to an over-amplified signal from Encoder 2.
  • Faulty internal voltage regulation within Encoder 2 causing its output signal amplitude to exceed specifications.
  • Short circuit between a signal line and the encoder's supply voltage (e.g., Sin+ shorted to +10V) increasing the signal level.
  • Drive input impedance mismatch or internal hardware fault on the drive's Encoder 2 interface X2.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify drive parameter P3-62 (Resolver transformation ratio) matches the datasheet specifications for Encoder 2.

  2. 2

Measure the differential voltage of the Encoder 2 signals (e.g., Sin+ to Sin-, Cos+ to Cos-) at drive terminal X2 using an oscilloscope, observing peak-to-peak amplitude.

  3. 3

Power down the drive, disconnect Encoder 2 cable, and measure resistance between each signal line (e.g., Sin+, Sin-) and the supply voltage (+10V) at the encoder connector.

  4. 4

Test the drive's Encoder 2 input with a known-good, correctly configured encoder to isolate the issue to the encoder or drive.
