F23.2

Power section – Fault

SEW Eurodrive · MOVIDRIVE system

What does F23.2 mean?

A standard fault has been detected in the power section, resulting in an emergency stop and output stage inhibit. This signifies a critical problem preventing safe operation and demands immediate attention to prevent further damage to the drive components.

Common Causes

  • Failure of one or more IGBTs (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors) in the inverter bridge.
  • Overvoltage or undervoltage condition in the DC link exceeding protective limits (e.g., due to regeneration or supply issues).
  • Short circuit or ground fault detected within the power section itself, separate from motor leads.
  • Failure of the gate driver circuitry responsible for switching IGBTs.
  • Damaged current sensors providing erroneous feedback from the output stage, leading to false tripping.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Disconnect main power. Perform a visual inspection of the entire power section for burnt components, discoloration, or evidence of arcing.

  2. 2

Use a multimeter to test the resistance between each output phase (U, V, W) and the DC- link/DC+ link to check for internal short circuits (after discharging DC bus).

  3. 3

Check the DC link voltage measurement (e.g., Parameter P7-01) immediately after the fault occurs to identify over/under voltage conditions.

  4. 4

Verify proper functioning of the cooling system, including fan operation and clear heatsink fins.

  5. 5

If feasible and safe, disconnect the motor and perform a no-load test to determine if the fault is internal to the drive or motor-related.
