Thermal Runaway
Fronius · Perfect Charging
What does 30 mean?
The battery is experiencing an uncontrolled self-heating process, characteristic of thermal runaway. This is an extremely dangerous condition that can escalate rapidly, leading to smoke, fire, or explosion if not immediately contained.
Common Causes
- An internal short circuit within the battery cells, leading to localized heating and increased current flow.
- Overcharging at excessive currents or voltages, generating uncontrolled heat.
- Physical damage to the battery, compromising cell integrity and leading to internal reactions.
- External heating combined with internal heat generation, pushing the battery beyond its thermal limits.
Repair Steps & Checklist
Click steps to track your progress.
- 1
IMMEDIATELY isolate the battery and charger from all connections if it can be done safely without risk to personnel.
- 2
Follow all established safety protocols for handling thermal runaway incidents, which may include evacuation of the area and activation of appropriate fire suppression systems.
- 3
Do not attempt to re-use the battery or charger without a thorough inspection and certification by a qualified professional to ensure safety.
