Communication Error (CAN)
Fronius · Perfect Charging
What does 54 mean?
A general communication error has occurred on the CAN bus with the battery. This indicates a problem with the fundamental data exchange process, preventing proper interaction between the charger and the battery's management system.
Common Causes
- Physical damage or loose connections in the CAN bus cabling, leading to intermittent or complete signal loss.
- Significant electrical interference or noise on the CAN bus lines, corrupting data packets.
- Incorrect CAN bus configuration settings (e.g., incorrect baud rate, improper termination resistors) in either the charger or the battery.
- A temporary communication glitch that resolves after a system reset.
Repair Steps & Checklist
Click steps to track your progress.
- 1
Inspect the entire CAN bus cable for physical damage, ensure proper and secure connections, and verify correct termination resistor values.
- 2
Check for potential sources of electromagnetic interference (EMI) near the CAN bus wiring and separate them if possible.
- 3
Verify the CAN bus communication settings (baud rate, IDs) in both the charger and the battery's BMS to ensure they are identical.
