BF-C

PROFINET Controller Communication Error

Phoenix Contact · AXC F 1050 Controller

What does BF-C mean?

This fault indicates a communication error in the PROFINET network when the AXC F 1050 operates as a PROFINET controller. It manifests as either no link status, incorrect transmission speed (not 100 Mbit), or improper duplex mode (not full duplex) on the Ethernet interfaces. Alternatively, with an active link, it signifies that at least one configured PROFINET device has no communication connection. This status is also reflected by the PNIO_SYSTEM_BF system variable being TRUE.

Common Causes

  • No physical link status on the AXC F 1050's Ethernet interfaces.
  • Ethernet interfaces not transmitting at 100 Mbit/s.
  • Ethernet interfaces not operating in full duplex mode.
  • Communication failure with one or more configured PROFINET devices, despite an active link.
  • The 'Control BF' parameter for a PROFINET device was not set to FALSE, thus excluding it from connection monitoring.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify physical Ethernet cable connections from the AXC F 1050 to all connected PROFINET devices and network infrastructure.

  2. 2

Check the network settings on the AXC F 1050 and connected PROFINET devices to ensure they are configured for 100 Mbit/s transmission and full duplex mode.

  3. 3

Observe link and activity LEDs on the AXC F 1050's Ethernet interfaces and connected network switches.

  4. 4

Utilize controller diagnostics or monitor the PNIO_SYSTEM_BF variable to identify which specific PROFINET device(s) are reporting a communication issue.

  5. 5

Confirm that the PROFINET device configuration in the controller matches the actual device parameters (e.g., device name, IP address).
