Gateway CAN Connect Timeout

Fronius · Perfect Charging

What does 101 mean?

The 'CAN Connect' setting is active on the charger, but no CAN connection could be established to the gateway device for a continuous period of at least 2 minutes. This means the charger cannot exchange data with the gateway, which is critical for remote monitoring or control.

Common Causes

  • A disconnected or physically damaged CAN bus cable between the charger and the gateway device.
  • The gateway device is not powered on, has crashed, or is otherwise faulty and unable to respond to CAN communication.
  • Incorrect CAN bus settings (e.g., baud rate, termination) or an addressing conflict between the charger and the gateway.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify the physical CAN bus cable connection between the charger and the gateway device for integrity and secure mating.

  2. 2

Ensure the gateway device is powered on and operating correctly by checking its indicator LEDs or internal diagnostics.

  3. 3

Check CAN bus termination resistor values and configuration settings on both the charger and the gateway to ensure they are correctly set for the network topology.
